Profiling help
The tool enables users to explore the entire European e-Competence Framework (e-CF) and to build custom ICT competence profiles, such as job descriptions, educational profiles, and curriculum or qualification profiles, which can then be downloaded as a text file or printed.
The tool is designed to be simple to use. You can’t break it, so try clicking on a few headings and buttons, and finding and selecting a few checkboxes to find out how it works.
When you’re done, click Export to download or view the specification you’ve created.
General navigation in the standard view
The four e-CF dimensions that are hidden inside the initial view of the tool can be accessed by clicking on the relevant headings.
So, for example, clicking on the heading
A.1. IS and Business Strategy Alignment
reveals the reference competence description for that heading, and its Proficiency Levels, Knowledge Examples and Skills Examples headings. In turn, clicking these headings will reveal their relevant descriptions.
A second click on any heading will hide the dimensions that it contains.
Navigation shortcuts
The menus at the top right of the tool give quick access to the various sections and dimensions of the e-Competence Framework, and are there to help you quickly hide and show the information you are interested in. They do not affect your choice of checkboxes when building a job description.
Building a profile
The checkboxes that are revealed as you click through the tool enable you to build a profile from the framework.
You can select as many descriptions as you like. After you click Export the selected items, and all the relevant headings above them, can be viewed, printed or downloaded.
About the e-CF
The European e-Competence Framework (e-CF) provides a reference of 40 competences as required and applied at the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) workplace, using a common language for competences, skills and proficiency levels that can be understood across Europe.
As the first sector-specific implementation of the European Qualifications Framework (EQF), the e-CF fits for application by ICT service, demand and supply organizations, companies, for managers and HR departments, for education institutions and training bodies, including higher education, for market watchers and policy makers, public and private sectors.
The e-CF was developed through a process of collaboration between experts and stakeholders from many different countries under the umbrella of the CEN Workshop on ICT Skills.
The e-CF is a component of the European union’s strategy for e-Skills in the 21st Century supported by the European Commission and The Council of Ministers. The Framework supports key policy objectives of the Grand Coalition for digital Jobs and benefits an ever growing user community from the EU and across the world.
More information about the framework and the user guidelines can be found at www.ecompetences.eu
About the European ICT Professional Profiles
The CEN ICT Skills Workshop has elaborated a set of European ICT Professional Profiles, using the European e-Competence Framework (e-CF) as the basis for competence identification; and illuminating and structuring each ICT Professional Profile with a number of components including work outcomes or “Deliverables”. As a response to the huge number of ICT Profile Frameworks and Profile descriptions used today in European ICT Business and Qualification systems, 23 representative ICT Profiles have been created. The Profiles are structured in six Profile families and cover the ICT Business process.
The 23 generic European ICT Professional Profile descriptions reflect the top of a European ICT Profile family tree. The profiles may be used for reference, or as the starting point to develop further ICT professional profile generations, by European stakeholders.
Published by CEN as CWA 16458:2012, these profiles, initially based upon European e-Competence Framework version 2.0, have been updated by e-CF version 3.0 references in the context of the e-CF v 3.0 project (2012-13). No content changes have been made within the initially agreed ICT Profiles definitions, the main aim was to keep consistency between this European ICT Professional Profiles document and the current e-CF version 3.0 in use. All changes made across the entire document are marked in grey. The updated CWA content in English language can be downloaded here.
